Felt is a textile that is produced by matting, condensing, and pressing fibers together. Felt can be made of natural fibers such as wool or animal fur, or from synthetic fibers such as petroleum-based acrylic or acrylonitrile or wood pulp–based rayon. Blended fibers are also common.Natural fibre felt has special properties that allow it to be used for a wide variety of purposes. It’s principal advantages are that it is fire-retardant and self-extinguishing; it dampens vibration and absorbs sound and it can hold large amounts of fluid without feeling wet.

Wool roving is produced during the process of making spun yarn from wool fleece, raw cotton or other fibres. Their main use is as fiber prepared for spinning, but they may also be used for specialised kinds of knitting or other textile arts. Roving looks like bright, fluffy clouds of wool which makes them a popular choice for craft projects such as ours.

Making felted soap is a perfect introduction to the art of wet felting. Felted soap is a bar of soap that has been encased in layers of felted wool, that helps to gently exfoliate your skin and make the soap last longer, replacing a washcloth or loofah in the shower. Wool is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-microbial so it is hygienic. Wool also contains natural Lanolin, which is deeply moisturising and hydrating for the skin.

Felted soap is both beautiful and practical, and makes a perfect gift for friends and family.
